Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh (May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be with you).

Abu Darda' reported Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying: Is any one of you incapable of reciting a third of the Qur'an in a night? They (the Companions) asked: How could one recite a third of the Qur'an (in a night)? Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said: "  " (He is Allah, One (Qur'an. cxii. Surah Ikhlas)) is equivalent to a third of the Qur'an.

Remember, though the reward of reading Surah Ikhlas is equivalent to reading one-third of the Qur’an does not mean one should read Surah Ikhlas thrice and does not read the entire Qur’an. Reading the entire Qur’an is different and carries its own rewards.

Similarly, offering Ishraq prayers carry a reward equivalent of performing Hajj & Umrah, it does not substitute performing actual Hajj & Umrah. Taking efforts for performing Hajj & Umrah carries its own rewards.

Hence, one should learn to read the entire Qur’an and teach their children to read Qur’an. It is a disgrace for a Muslim if he does not read Qur’an.

May Allah (SWT) bond all of us to the Qur’an.
